I was speaking with a friend the other day who was talking to me about how busy everyone’s life is these days. I found myself making excuses and saying how I hadn’t done this, that and the other due to my busy-ness too. I truly believe they are valid reasons for not achieving what I set out to do.

Then it suddenly dawned on me… There’s never going to be an “ideal time” to learn how to sew, go to swim in the ocean daily, get to the personal trainer every second day, learn how to play guitar, or keep practising Spanish. I just have to set aside the time now and consistently show up. #accountability

SHOWING UP. If you follow me on Instagram I’ve been keeping in line with this theme all week. It’s a biggy for me because when I have heaps on my plate, and the kids are needy, but I have to work, I might not feel like doing certain tasks (cough cough exercise). I start looking for ways to let myself off the hook. To go easy on myself. But the things I “go easy on myself” often end up being the things that really matter! Like yoga or walking first thing in the morning. I call it my moving meditation. It sets me up for a calm and productive day. But the moment I’m overwhelmed with stuff to do, I stop doing exercise and my stress levels rise, not to mention my energy tank is empty by 3pm (and my chocolate intake increases). It’s a pattern I see and hear about from patients, friends and family ALL THE TIME.

So here’s a little challenge for you. What would change in your life if you started showing up? Are you leaving out something important? Something you know makes you feel good, but “life” has gotten in the way?

I’d like to remind you at this point: You don’t have to be perfect. None of us are perfect. Just show up and do what you can at the time. One downward facing dog is better than none. A five minute walk in your lunch break in the sunshine is better than no walk or sunshine. Park five minutes away from school and walk with the kids to school.
