BASIL PESTO and Hummus.

These avoid the use of crappy polyunsaturated oils such as canola, soy or sunflower.

Extra virgin olive oil is a much better choice as it supports cardiovascular health, longevity and helps our cell walls develop strong membranes as they grow.

 

BASIL PESTO:

1 x bunch fresh basil (rinsed)

1/2 cup macadamias

2 heaped tbsp savoury yeast flakes

1/4 tsp macrobiotic sea salt

juice of 1 large lemon

1-2 small garlic cloves

pinch pepper

100ml extra virgin olive oil

 

Blend well for 20-30 sec, scrape, then repeat.

 

HUMMUS:

1 x can organic chick peas (rinsed)

1 x garlic clove

1 tsp cumin

1 tsp coriander (ground)

1/2 tsp macrobiotic sea salt

3 tbsp water

50ml extra virgin olive oil

heaped tbsp hulled tahini

 

Blend until smooth. This may take up to 2 mins!

 

These dips are my go-to. I add them to salads, dip fruits and veggies into them, and take them to parties as a part of a side platter. They’re ALWAYS a winner for both taste and health benefits.
